ZAPISNIK

Spisan u Predsjedničtvu Vlade, dne 30, ožujka 1943. Ured ministra

Tortiča

P.p.

potrebne odredbe. Zaključeno i potpisano.

Office of the Minister Tortič

P.p.

Uninvited: Antun Babič, mayor from Zrinj, and Roko Remeta, Zrinj defense camp leader, Pavao Maraković, peasant, and Mijo Krivošić, peasant from Zrinj, as representatives from the Municipality of

Zrinj, declare the following:

Since the establishment of the independent State of Croatia, we have been constantly fighting with hand weapons against Chetniks and partisans, and so far we have always managed to defend ourselves, although Zrinj was attacked 36 times. Only occasionally and for a short time did the help of the army come to us. In those battles, one hundred of our comrades were killed, and 46 people were captured in the fields while they were working. Of the weapons, we have 80 rifles, which we seized from the Chetniks in the first battles, and one third of those rifles are defective. We do not have ammunition for civilian rifles. We also had two heavy machine guns, which we also stole from the Chetniks ourselves, but the army took those machine guns from us. We are poorly trained, and especially we lack weapons, so this

also makes our position difficult, not to mention the lack of food, because we could not cultivate the fields, and we are cut off from the world, so food cannot reach us from anywhere. However, we would endure all these troubles patiently if we were sure that we could continue to successfully defend our lives and our village. The army that passed through here for the purpose of cleaning out the outlaws only partially completed that work, because immediately after their departure, larger and smaller groups of partisans began to harass Zrinj and other Croatian villages in the Dvor district. Our resistance is also weakened by the fact that we are forced to cultivate our fields, and in the first place we individuals in the fields, which are 4 km away and scattered in the surrounding area, can be captured and overcome, and while we are in the field, our village is entirely unprotected.

For these reasons, in order to remove the immediate danger that threatens us according to the information of our confidants, it is necessary that at least one home guard platoon with heavy and light machine guns arrive in Zrinj as soon as possible, in order to secure Zrinj on the one hand, and on the other hand so we can cultivate our fields in peace. Furthermore, it would be necessary to issue us 134 remittances for weapons, because there are so many of us, who are alternately on guard duty, so we are constantly performing purely military service. The representatives of the municipality of Zrinj mentioned above and signed below are asking Minister Tortić to submit this record and the attached petition with the recommendation of Major Čičak to the CHIEF with a request that he immediately issue the necessary provisions. Concluded and signed.
